Welcome to the
Family of Bookselling Services
The irony is not lost on me that I am announcing my departure from the book business on the day that Borders Books is announcing their demise. I started in bookselling over 30 years ago as the night manager of the first Crown Books on the West Coast, and over those years there has been monumental change in bookstores and in bookselling. Book sales have become so slivered and fractured and splintered and sliced and diced, I don’t see how any unsubsidized brick-and-mortar bookstore can survive. So although I’m deciding to leave the book business for other pursuits, it’s really more the case that the business has left me.
And yet aspects of the Lafayette Book Store live on without me!
As for me, I’m pursuing career opportunities in a number of areas. As a classic generalist with a background in outdoor education, elementary school teaching, radio broadcasting and management, training, small business marketing, and of course as 13-year owner of this eclectic, exciting, challenging business, there are many directions I can go. I’m excited at the prospects, and although I’m proud of the work we did at the Lafayette Book Store and will miss the people and the colleagues and the books I’ve enjoyed here, I look forward to my next adventure.
With best regards,
Owner, Lafayette Book Store and The Bay Area Bookmobile
The Bay Area Bookmobile has discontinued as a business and Big Blue is up for sale. (Although it is amazing as a mobile bookstore, most of the interest in purchasing it has been from people who want to convert it to living space!). Hence, we will no longer make appearances, sell new books or accept special orders.
Our offsite events business, in which we produce custom bookstores for conferences, conventions, and book fairs, will be transferred seamlessly to Angie Cozad, who has been running this program for over 6 years.
Angie Cozad brings over 20 years of experience and has the know-how to generate a custom selection of hand-picked books in any subject area and can handle the logistics and coordination for a wide variety of literary signings and events.
